The Avoid the 23 DUI Task Force is urging the public to help keep the streets safe this Thanksgiving holiday by drinking responsibly and designating a sober driver before heading to the local celebration or pub.
The Avoid the 23 DUI Task Force will be sending four special DUI saturation patrols throughout San Mateo County Wednesday night to stop and arrest those who drink and drive. Thanksgiving Eve is generally an evening when families start gathering and doing a little pre-celebrating before the big day. The number one killer on our highways continues to be the impaired driver, and celebrations often go hand in hand with alcohol consumption.
“The Daly City Police Department wishes everyone a safe Thanksgiving Holiday,” said Chief Manuel Martinez Jr. “We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly, use designated drivers or public transportation, and to buckle up and stay alive. DUI laws will be strictly enforced, as always.”
The Daly City Police Department recommends the following tips:
• Plan a safe way home before your celebration begins.
• If you plan to get a ride home with someone else, designate a sober driver before any drinking begins.
• If you’re impaired, use a taxi, private car service, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely.
• If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate – Call 9-1-1.
• If you know someone who is about to drive his/her car or ride a motorcycle while impaired, take away the keys and help make other arrangements for a safe ride home.
