Downey Mourns Tragic Loss of Officer Ricardo Galvez

It is with heavy hearts that the City of Downey and Downey Police Department acknowledge the loss of one of our own. Officer Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Galvez, 29 years old, was tragically shot and killed around 11 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Stated Mayor Luis H. Marquez, “Every day, the brave men and women of our Downey Police Department put themselves at personal risk to keep us all safe. We are incredibly sorrowed at the loss of Officer Galvez and our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him.”

A five year veteran of the Downey Police Department and former United States Marine, Officer Galvez is survived by his mother, brother, sisters, and numerous devoted friends and colleagues.
"Please keep our Downey police officer, his family and the Downey Police Department in your thoughts and prayers," said Mayor Pro Tem Alex Saab. "This is a difficult time for the entire Downey community."
