(UPDATE) Fatal accident on the 3000 block of Sumner Avenue

UPDATE

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, investigators with the Crash Investigations Hit & Run Unit arrested 29-year-old Lawrence S. Green in connection with the hit & run crash investigation that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Roy Shelton on November 8. 

On November 9, investigators received anonymous information on a possible location of the suspect vehicle. At the location provided, investigators located a green, 1991 Ford Explorer SUV believed to be the striking vehicle. Additional information obtained by investigators as the investigation progressed led them to Lawrence Green as the suspected driver. Green turned himself in to investigators and was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center. He was preliminary charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death and possession of marijuana. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the findings of the investigation for a final charging decision.

INDIANAPOLIS –  On November 8, 2015 at approximately 5:28 a.m., The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Departments (IMPD) were sent to the 3000 block of Sumner Avenue  reference a possible fatal accident. 

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male in the roadway. The unidentified male was later identified as 23 year-old Roy Shelton of Indianapolis. Mr. Shelton was struck sometime before 5:30 a.m. this morning while walking in the 3000 block of Sumner Avenue by a green 1991-1994 Ford Explorer SUV or a green 1989-1992 Ford Ranger Pickup.
