PLANE CRASH IN MOUNTAINOUS AREA WEST OF LAKE HUGHES #LASD @PalmdaleSheriff

DATE/Time:  November 12, 201512/8:15 PM

LOCATION: West Lake Hughes area; Maxwell Canyon Road/Lake Hughes Road

VICTIM: 70 year-old male (Pilot) and 74 year-old male (passenger)

UNIT: Palmdale Sheriff’s Station

NARRATIVE: 

Lancaster Sheriff’s Station received a 9-1-1 call from the pilot of a small plane advising he crashed approximately 5 miles west of Fox Airfield in Lancaster.  The 70 year-old pilot further advised he and his 74 year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries.  He described his plane as a “Beech Craft Bonanza”. Lancaster Station immediately notified Los Angeles County Fire Department and dispatched Lancaster patrol units to the area west of Fox Airfield.  Lancaster patrol units were unable to locate the downed plane.  A short time later, Los Angeles County Fire Department Airship responded and located the downed plane several miles further west than the pilot thought he crashed. 

The plane was found in a mountainous area west of the Lake Hughes community.  The Fire Department airship landed, treated both pilot and passenger and transported them by air to a local hospital.  Los Angeles County Fire advised pilot and passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and both are doing well.

The crash scene has been secured by Palmdale Sheriff’s Station patrol deputies pending the response of Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau and FAA investigators who will arrive in the morning.
