NEWS RELEASE

Office of Chief Brent Smith

Ceres, CA - On November 5, at 02:15 AM, a Silver 2001 Mitsubishi Galant traveled at high rate of speed north on 6th Street failing to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Caswell Ave. The Mitsubishi Galant crossed Caswell Ave onto the front yard of a home in the 2400 Block of Caswell Ave. The vehicle struck a raised planter launching the vehicle into a bedroom where an 8 year old boy and his 27 year old father slept.

The Ceres Police and Fire Departments arrived and rescued the father who was trapped under the car. The boy was removed from the room by family members. Both were rushed to local hospitals. The boy suffered from a broken femur. The father sustained two broken legs, burns, cuts and internal injuries. They were both critical but in stable condition.

Officers at the scene followed a blood trail from the accident scene to the 2500 block of Caswell Ave. We suspect either the driver or an occupant was picked up by another vehicle.

Officers are working tirelessly to identify the driver and determine the cause of the collision. Speed was a contributing factor however, we have not established if alcohol was involved.

We are encouraging anyone with information to this incident to call Ceres Police Officer Keith Kitcher at (209) 538-5620 or Ceres Police Dispatch at (209) 538-5712
