An Upper Macungie Township resident reported a recent fraud attempt and requested UMT's residents be advised of same.

The resident recently entered a Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes contest online and shortly thereafter was advised she had won 2.5 Million dollars.

The resident was mailed a check for several thousand dollars (which was later determined to be fraudulent) and the resident was advised she needed to send back several thousand dollars to cover legal and other expenses.

The resident recognized this as a scam and suffered NO loss.

The Upper Macungie Township Police Department would like to remind its residents to be cautious with these types of scams and when someone is notified they are a winner of a contest, but then instructed to send money to the organization it is more than likely a scam!!!
