Advisory

NWS Red Flag Warning issued to LA County effective 10/29 to 10/30. Click link for important info.

The forecast shows that this will not be like the December 2011 windstorms that devastated our community. Those winds were in excess of 75 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has just issued a Red Flag Warning for Los Angeles County effective Thursday, October 29th, 2015 through Friday, October 30th, 2015. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.

This is the first significant wind event of the season and we should be prepared for local power outages and blowing debris. At times, there is a potential for gusty north winds of 35-45 miles per hour. Residents must remember that winds of any intensity could be problematic due to drought-stressed trees and breaking branches. At this time there are no reports of power outages or damage to private or public property.

A few precautions to consider:

-Minimize your outdoor activities and ensure you secure loose items lying around your property i.e. umbrellas, outdoor furniture, swing sets and toys. Our Officers, CSOs, and cadets are utilizing safety eye wear and dust masks as they conduct business outdoors. In the event you have to go outdoors, this may be a good safety precaution to follow.

-Try and keep your animals inside, or sheltered in some way.

-In the event you are faced with a public safety issue or traffic hazard (like a downed or fallen power line), stay inside your home or vehicle and call the police department. DO NOT GO NEAR A FALLEN ELECTRICAL LINE.

-The city streets will be cleared as quickly as possible when it is safe to do so. The clearing of streets will be prioritized by considering access for public safety vehicles.

- For non-emergent calls, please call 626-355-1414. Only call 911 for life threatening, downed utility lines or damaged buildings.

-Have a safety plan in place will ALL your family members in the event of a natural disaster, power outage or major street closure.
