Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 10-19-15 at 4:10 p.m., Officer Nick McCarthy contacted a subject who had two active warrants on the 500 block of Hillside Boulevard. The subject started stating expletives to the officer when the officer asked him for his identification. When Officer McCarthy asked the subject for identification, he said the subject reached into his left rear pants pocket and pulled out a black pen and told him to back up from him. Cover units arrived to assist the officer as he took him into custody. The subject, a 44-year old Daly City resident, had in his jacket pocket a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance and for the two outstanding warrants.
On Monday, 10-19-15 at 7:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Bank of America on Southgate Avenue on a report of a possible in-progress “shoulder surfing” crime. The reporting party gave dispatchers a description of the subject, and officers made contact with a subject seen walking back and forth. During their course of the investigation, they contacted a subject sitting in a vehicle associated with the suspect. That subject, a 24-year old transient, had ecstasy pills in his possession and was cited for that. The “shoulder surfer” suspect, a 24-year old Oakland resident, was not arrested, as there were no victims.
Since there were not many “notable” cases this time, I’ll let you know the things I don’t normally talk about in my bulletin:
• 13 people were cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license
• There were 5 hit and run crashes
• There were 8 cases involving involuntary psychiatric holds
• We responded 12 domestic disturbance cases
• We made 14 warrant arrests
Robberies
There were two robberies during the past week. An arrest was made in one case.
On Tuesday, 10-20-15 at 8:17 p.m., a Victoria’s Secret employee was the victim of a strong armed robbery by a suspect who stole merchandise. The employee chased the suspect and was pushed by the suspect. The Serramonte mall security officer attempted to grab the suspect and was bitten in the arm by the suspect. The suspect, a 28-year old Oakland resident, was arrested for robbery and resisting arrest. Officers found numerous other stolen items from other stores in the suspect’s vehicle.
On Friday, 10-23-15 at 11:20 p.m., the Valero gas station was robbed by an unknown subject described as a black male, 5’6”, 150-180 pounds, wearing a black beanie, black hooded jacket, black gloves and had a slightly graying beard. The subject produced a gun and told the cashier to take out the money. The subject fled on foot. The cashier was unharmed.

Between Thursday, 10-22-15 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., another residence on the unit block of Morton Drive was burglarized. Entry was made via smashing a garage window. There was no loss as the house was vacant.
On Saturday, 10-24-15 between 4:30 p.m. and 8:31 p.m., a residence on the 200 block of Canterbury Avenue was burglarized. The unknown suspect forced open a latch to a side gate and entered through a sliding glass door. The loss was jewelry and currency.
On Sunday, 10-25-15 between 11:20 p.m. and 11:24 p.m., a residence on the unit block of Hampshire Avenue was burglarized by an unknown subject who gained entry through a bathroom window. The residents were home at the time of the burglary and could hear the burglars in the house. Instead of dialing 9-1-1, the resident called a relative first. The loss was a laptop, electronics and miscellaneous jewelry. The subjects were gone upon police arrival.

Nextdoor.com
This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
