Two suspects were arrested in Newberry Springs for assault with a deadly weapon

DATE/TIME: October 28, 2015, at 1:17pm

INCIDENT: PC245 Assault with a deadly weapon

LOCATION: 39800 block of Tami Rd. in Newberry Springs

SUSPECT(S):1. Wesley Phillips, white male, 21 years of age and a resident of Newberry Springs, Ca.
2. 16 year old, white male juvenile and resident of Newberry Springs, Ca.

VICTIM(S): 21 year old male, resident of Newberry Springs


SUMMARY: On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, an assault occurred in Yermo. Wesley Phillips and a 16 year old male got into an argument with the male victim. During the argument, Phillips placed a wood baton on a table and continued to confront him. The 16 year old suspect displayed a handgun then hit the victim in the head with the wood baton. The victim was treated at the scene. Deputy Parsons authored a search warrant to recover weapons used in the assault.

On October 28, 2015, San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Special Enforcement Division, assisted in the service of a search warrant in Newberry Springs. Special Enforcement Division was utilized because Deputy Parsons received information the suspects had numerous weapons which posed a safety risk to investigators. Brass knuckles, along with a handgun involved in the assault and several other firearms were recovered during the search.

Both suspects were located at a residence on the 39800 block of Tami Rd. Wesley Phillips was transported to Barstow Jail where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. The 16 year old juvenile was transported to High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. The bail for each suspect was set at $50,000.00.
