Jessica Brown
OSBI Public Information Officer
Saturday evening, the Texas County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assist with a homicide investigation near Guymon. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a man stating he had shot another man in his driveway. Investigators arrived on scene and began collecting information and evidence. The shooter told officers Kennan Lee Rice, 39, began chasing and tailgating him trying to run him off the road near U.S. Highway 54 and Main Street in Guymon. The man made it to his residence located just east of County Road 26 on County Road X. Rice immediately pulled in behind him blocking the man inside his driveway. The man told Rice he did not want any trouble and to leave. The man says Rice then charged at him. The man fired a handgun at Rice striking him several times. Rice died at the scene. OSBI agents will continue to collect information and evidence and provide it to the district attorney in a written report. The district attorney will determine if the shooting was in self defense. Since the shooter has not been arrested or charged for any crime, his name will not be released at this time.
