Advisory

Press Release - Brandishing a replica firearm, obstruct /delay a peace officer.

On Friday, October 23, 2015 at 6:06 PM, CPD officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Village Drive regarding a male subject wearing black clothing who was brandishing a gun in front of a residence. On arrival, officers contacted a male subject matching the description walking in the area. The subject, who was identified as Martice Villareal (age 30), was seen making movements towards his front waistband where officers saw he had what appeared to be a firearm tucked inside. Officers gave Villareal several commands to stop but he refused to comply and kept walking in the area acting irrational. Villareal continued to fail to comply with verbal commands from officers who had to deploy a Taser on him. The deployed Taser did not have any effect on Villareal who continued to walk away from officers carrying the suspected firearm in his waistband. Officers were finally able to physically subdue Villareal and take him into custody. The suspected firearm tucked inside of Villareal's waistband was determined to be a black air soft min-rifle with a red / orange tip. Officers interviewed a resident in the area who first saw Villareal walking in the area brandishing the suspected firearm as the resident was standing in her front yard watching her children play. The resident quickly went inside her residence with her children after seeing the subject and called the police. Villareal sustained some minor injuries due to physically struggling with officers during his arrest. Villareal was medically treated for his injuries at a local hospital. Villareal was booked at the Kings County Jail for two counts of brandishing a replica firearm and three counts of obstructing / delaying a peace officer with a total bail amount of $65,000.00
