Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

Last month I reported that two 15-year old males were robbed on a Sunday night in the parking lot of the 24-Hour Fitness facility. Investigators followed up on the case and arrested a 17-year old Daly City resident on Tuesday, 10-13-15 for the crime.

On Friday, 10-16-15 at 1:39 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Fairway Drive on a report of a trespassing involving a male on the front balcony of the residence. The victim said her ex-boyfriend of four years texted her saying he wanted to talk to her. The victim said her ex-boyfriend, a 29-year old Colma resident, climbed onto her balcony and forced half of his body inside her window. The victim said he left the area. Officers located the suspect nearby in his vehicle. The suspect said he only intended to speak with ex-girlfriend. The suspect was subsequently arrested for stalking, attempted burglary, trespassing, carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle and for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place.

On Sunday, 10-18-15 at 9:00 a.m., a resident on the 1200 block of South Mayfair Avenue found a container containing an unknown substance on the sidewalk. The San Mateo County Hazmat and Bomb Squad Team were called, the residents were instructed to shelter-in-place, and the streets were cordoned off. The county Hazmat team determined it was a combination of soapy water and sour milk in a plastic milk container.

On Sunday, 10-18-15 at 10:18 p.m., Officer Ben Wagnon and Officer Shane Hart were on patrol in the area of South Hill Boulevard and Oakridge Drive and were driving behind a stolen Honda Civic. They attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver accelerated in an attempt to fail to yield to the officers. The subject jumped out of his vehicle, and the subject’s vehicle rolled into a concrete fence/wall. The officers began chasing the subject on foot, and both the suspect and Officer Wagnon lost their footing going down a staircase and fell. The subject, a 66-year old San Francisco resident, had narcotics paraphernalia (a glass pipe) and a narcotic controlled substance (methamphetamine) in his possession. He was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer, possession of burglary tools, hit and run, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Robberies

There was one robbery during the past week. An arrest was made in this case.

On Saturday, 10-8-15 at 7:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 7400 block of Mission Street on a report of a domestic violence incident in progress. A passerby reported seeing a male hitting a female in the face. The female was with her 5-year old child. The victim, a 25-year old Fairfield resident, told the officers that her boyfriend of two years had taken her phone, stopped her from getting into a taxi, slapped her in the head twice, took her purse and fled the scene. Officers located the suspect, a 30-year old Oakland resident, and arrested him for robbery, battery and willful cruelty to a child.

Residential Burglaries

There was one residential burglary and one attempted residential burglary during the past week. One arrest was made in the attempted residential burglary.

On Sunday, 10-18-15 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., an unknown subject cut the lock off of a storage locker of an apartment on the unit block of Eastmoor Avenue and stole two bicycles.

On Friday, 10-16-15 at 1:39 a.m., a 29-year old Colma resident was arrested for attempted burglary after climbing onto the balcony and entering half of his body through a window of his ex-girlfriend’s residence on the unit block of Fairway Drive.

Scams/Other

IRS Scam Continues

On Wednesday, 10-14-15 between 12:54 p.m. and 3:20 p.m., a 22-year old Daly City resident said she received a phone call from a male with an Indian accent who identified himself as being with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The victim said the male caller advised she was currently in violation of owing past due taxes in the amount of $5,200.00. The caller said the victim would be arrested immediately if she didn’t pay the money. The caller told the victim that all debt would be settled and she would not have any negative marks against her credit or financial status if she made a series of cash payments via Moneygram to an unspecified location in Chicago. The caller then transferred the call to his “supervisor”, a female with an Indian accent. The female told the victim to remain on the line and follow her step-by-step directions on how to withdraw money—and then go to the nearest Moneygram location and send two designated amounts of $850.00. The victim sent one payment and then decided to search the internet about “IRS phone scams” and realized she was a victim of the scam.

This type of scam will continue if we don’t continue spread the word.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
