The ECPD RPD and BART PD are working together today to educate the public about safety on the local walking paths
Operation Safe Paths
October 5, 2015
On Wednesday October 15, 2015 the El Cerrito, BART and Richmond Police Departments will conduct the first of several joint operations to connect with the public about pedestrian safety on the public pathways traversing both cities.
As part of our on-going efforts to address crime on a regional basis, the departments will work together to increase the sense of security using a variety of methods. This is of particular importance as the end of day-light savings approaches.
Both cities have been inspecting the paths for environmental crime prevention factors, such as malfunctioning lights, overgrown shrubbery and other potential hazards.
The Police Departments will have information stations at BART stations as those going to and from public transit are often traveling by foot.
Information stations will be at Richmond BART and Del Norte BART stations.
Police Officers from Richmond, BART and El Cerrito will be working together to patrol the paths, deter crime, educate the public and to enhance safety in the region.
Officers will be visible using bicycles and dual sport motorcycles while others staff information stations.
