Two Victims Stabbed by Suspect with Mental Health Issues

Modesto, CA – At 8:17 AM Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a victim stabbed at the Texaco gas station located at Harris Ave and Paradise Rd in Modesto, CA. Prior to arriving they had received a report of a second stabbing victim.

Upon arrival the suspect, later identified as Oscar Sanchez Gonzalez age 26 out of Modesto, was located still holding a fixed blade carving style knife. Deputies were able to get Gonzalez to drop the knife but he continued to resist and a K-9 was needed to take him into custody.

Family members reported that Gonzalez left the house earlier that morning, prior to the incident, with the knife. Gonzalez was reported to have mental health issues.

During the investigation witnesses reported seeing Gonzalez walk into the Texaco gas station convenience store. There was one patron inside the store getting ready to pay when Gonzalez walked up to him and stabbed him without being provoked. Gonzalez left the store while witnesses called 911.

Gonzalez then walked east on Paradise Rd and into an automotive mechanic shop. He entered one of the customer’s vehicles where he stole a cellular telephone. One of the employees armed himself with a crow bar and attempted to stop Gonzalez, but was unsuccessful do to Gonzalez being armed.

Gonzalez then left the automotive shop and walked next door to the Snow White drive-in. The business was closed but an elderly female was walking across the parking lot using her walker. Gonzalez approached the female and stabbed her without being provoked. The female left her walker and began running to get away from Gonzalez. Gonzalez was apprehended a short time later.

Both victims are in stable condition. The male victim from the Texaco incident had to be rushed into emergency surgery for bleeding. He was last reported as being in stable condition. The elderly female was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening stab wounds and is reported to be in stable condition.

Gonzalez was transported to the hospital and cleared for self-inflicted injuries and injuries he sustained from the K-9. He was booked for Attempted Murder, two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Robbery.
