Two vehicle accident on Loop 335 sends one to hospital with life-threatening injury.
On 10-7-15, at about 9:53 PM, officers received information that a vehicle was seen driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of St. Francis (Loop 335). Officers started eastbound from St. Francis and River Road, and heard the sound of a collision. They then drove up on the major accident at St. Francis and Sherrill Drive. A silver Chevrolet van had been westbound on St. Francis, in the inside eastbound lane before the accident. The van veered from the inside to the outside lane, where it collided with a tractor trailer rig traveling eastbound. The driver of the truck described seeing the van veer across the roadway toward him. He attempted to stop but the van struck the area of the truck just behind the driver’s door and the left front corner of the trailer. The van sustained heavy damage and the Amarillo Fire Department had to cut the roof of the van away to extricate the driver. The driver, a WM 62, was transported to a local hospital with what were last described as life threatening injuries. APD Traffic Investigations investigators were called to the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured and there were no passengers in the van. Investigators are attempting to determine if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
