Office of Chief Brent Smith

Ceres CA - On October 7, 2015 at approximately 07:54 A.M. a California Highway Patrol Officer attempted to stop two cars that appeared to have been in a minor collision in the area of Parkdale Dr. and Hatch Rd. One of the vehicles, a black Honda Civic, turned around and drove straight at the CHP Officer forcing him to swerve to avoid a collision. The CHP Officer then initiated a pursuit of the Honda Civic. During the pursuit the driver of the Civic again tried to ram the CHP Officer before driving into an orchard in the area of Vivian Rd. and Whitmore Avenue. The CHP Officer lost sight of the Civic in the orchard and requested assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and the Ceres Police Department. A Ceres Police Officer responding to the request for assistance, located the Honda Civic near the intersection of Ustick Rd. and Whitmore Av. and attempted to stop the car. The Civic failed to stop and the Ceres Officer initiated a pursuit. The pursuit continued for several minutes before the driver of the Civic lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail at the intersection of Ustick Rd. and Glenn Av. The driver of the Civic then tried to run from the car but was apprehended by a Ceres Police K-9 Officer.

The driver, a 15 year old juvenile from Modesto, was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall for multiple charges including Assault with a deadly weapon on a Police Officer, Possession of a stolen vehicle and Fleeing a Police Officer with willful disregard.
