CERT to host training for Chula Vista residents, City employees and City volunteers in Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface.

The Chula Vista Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is hosting training for Chula Vista residents, City employees and City volunteers in Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface

Learn what firefighters learn to protect your home and your community, learn how to protect your home and the science about fire behavior prediction and evacuation.

When and Where: November 7, 2015, 8am —- 4:30pm at the Chula Vista Fire Station 4, 850 Paseo Ranchero, Chula Vista. Coffee and refreshments at 8am; the course will start promptly at 8:30 and lunch will be provided.

Free: The course is free of charge to local residents, City employees, City volunteers, representatives of community Fire Safe Councils, and CERT members.

The training is conducted by: J.P. Harris, Los Angeles County Fire Department Battalion Chief, Retired and Clay Howe, Battalion Chief, Bureau of Land Management

About the training: A one day in-depth course to learn the principles used by firefighters in suppressing wildland fire and protecting structures in the Wildland Urban Interface. Participants will learn about fire behavior prediction. They will apply this knowledge to the community’s topography, fuels, weather, and the community’s Fire Safe condition including the construction of homes. The training will include a field trip to selected homes to do a site assessment on lessons learned. The day will include discussion about evacuation and survival tips.

This workshop is hosted by the Chula Vista Fire Department CERT and administered by the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County in partnership with the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County. Funding is provided by San Diego Gas & Electric and a National Fire Plan grant from the Cooperative Fire program of the U.S. Forest Service through the California Fire Safe Council.
