A firearm stolen from a 1981 Canyon Country residential burglary recovered at LAPD gun buy-back event

A detective at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station tracked down a residential burglary report from 1981 and located the victim of a residential burglary that occurred in Canyon Country on September 25, 1981.  During the burglary a “Schmidt” .22 caliber revolver was stolen from a residence located in the 19000 block of Drycliff Street in the city of Santa Clarita.  The victim, now 82 years old, was located in the Santa Clarita Valley.  He was surprised when contacted by detectives and remembered the burglary.  He reminisced about being able to fire his weapon from his front yard when he was younger.  The weapon was recovered during a gun buy-back program in the San Fernando Valley.  The serial number of the weapon was verified through registration records, which reported it was stolen from the burglary in 1981.  The gun owner surrendered the gun for destruction, after he decided he no longer wanted to possess it.
