Lomita Deputy Saves Despondent Woman

On Tuesday, October 06, 2015, at 11:30am, deputies responded to the 4100 block of Palos Verdes Drive South in the city of Rancho Palos Verdes regarding an 81 year old female standing on the edge of the cliff. Detective Todd Hoy arrived and saw the female in a crouched position on the edge of the cliff, facing the ocean, and swinging her arms as if she was preparing to throw herself from the cliff. Detective Hoy quickly approached her from behind and grabbed her, enabling him to pull her away from the cliff to safety. As Detective Hoy pulled the female to safety, she told him she wanted to jump.

Detective Hoy's quick action, while placing himself in harm's way, undoubtedly saved the life of the distraught female. Detective Hoy's heroism is a reflection of his dedication to the communities Lomita Station serves, representing the Core Values of the Department to the highest degree.
