UPDATE: Arrests in Fatal Hit & Run Collision. Suspect Arrested At LAX Attempting To Flee The Country

On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at approximately 10:56 p.m., Beverly Hills Police units responded to a call of a traffic collision in the 300 block of N. Crescent Drive involving a pedestrian. Upon police units’ arrival, they discovered an unconscious male adult lying in the roadway. Officers immediately began C.P.R. and were subsequently relieved by Beverly Hills Fire Department Paramedics who transported the unconscious male to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Based on witness statements and video evidence, investigators believed that there were possibly two vehicles involved in the fatal collision. Both vehicles fled from the scene. The first suspect vehicle was last seen traveling northbound in the 400 block of N. Crescent Drive and was described as a dark or possibly black 4 door sedan. The second suspect vehicle was last seen southbound on Rexford Drive from South Santa Monica Boulevard and was described by witnesses as being a mini-van or S.U.V. that was dark in color.

Beverly Hills Police Department Traffic Bureau Investigators have been working diligently to locate and to arrest those responsible for the fatal collision. Utilizing surveillance video and physical evidence left at the scene, investigators were able to identify the two vehicles that were involved in the fatal collision. Over the weekend of September 26th, 2015, investigators located and impounded the vehicles for evidence.

On September 30, 2015, investigators arrested Los Angeles resident, Tony Sun Jae Jung, 45 years old, in the city of Santa Clarita while serving a search warrant related to this investigation. His bail was set at $100,000. Jung posted bond on October 1, 2015.

On September 30, 2015, Sue Young Sohn, 46 years old resident of Irvine, was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport waiting to board an afternoon flight to Seoul, South Korea, despite having a pre-arranged appointment to meet with Beverly Hills Police Investigators that same afternoon. The one way airline ticket was purchased the previous day. Her bail was deviated to $5,000,000 and she still remains in custody.

Investigators believe that Jung and Sohn left a local Beverly Hills restaurant in separate cars just prior to the fatal collision. Jung and Sohn are believed to be the drivers of the two vehicles that ultimately struck and killed the victim. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the cause of the fatal collision. Additionally, Sohn is currently on probation with Orange County Superior Court due to prior convictions for driving under the influence.

On October 2, 2015, The Los Angeles County District Attorney filed the below five counts against Sue Young Sohn (Court Case No. SA091381:

1. 187(a) PC- Murder

2. 191.5(a) PC- Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

3. 20001(b)(2) CVC- Hit & Run driving resulting in death or serious injury to another person.

4. 14601.5(a) CVC- Driving when privileged suspended or revoked for failing blood alcohol test.

5. 14601.2(a) CVC- Driving when privileged suspended or revoked for a driving under the influence conviction

Sue Young Sohn is currently in custody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and is due to be arraigned this afternoon.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney deferred filing on Tony Sunjae Sung. Sung is due back in court on November 30th, 2015.
