The Barnegat Police Department / Office of Emergency Management is monitoring the developing weather systems in coordination with the Township Committee and other Township departments and resources. 

The nor'easter that is currently impacting Barnegat is forecast to cause moderate flooding on the Barnegat bayfront during the next few high tide cycles beginning this afternoon. Please avoid the bayfront during this time. 

Residents who live between the East Bay Avenue bridge and bathing beach area should be particularly mindful of flooding as the roadway may be impassable to low-clearance passenger cars at times during high tide.

Barnegat police will be using military surplus vehicles to patrol the bayfront during times of flooding and have ample resources to respond to any emergency calls or other calls for service in the bayfront area regardless of weather/flooding conditions. 

The Ocean County Road Department has advised us that the East Bay Avenue bridge will remain closed, however, emergency vehicles will be able to utilize the bridge in the event of an emergency. 

Power outages are possible throughout the weekend due to the possibility of falling trees and downed wires. Portions of East Bay Avenue have already experienced a power outage due to a downed tree and wires. We will update residents via Nixle of any outages and estimated times of restoration as we are provided that information by the utility companies. 

Hurricane Joaquin is forecast to remain offshore and out to sea and is not forecast to have a major impact on the Barnegat area at this time. Should the forecast change, the Township is prepared to respond and has the necessary plans and resources available.
