Prolonged Rain Event-Monitoring of Hurricane Joaquin. Over the next several days anticipate 4 to 8 inches of rain

The Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services has been closely monitoring the approaching rain event as well as the development of Hurricane Joaquin in the Atlantic. Late yesterday we participated in a conference call with the National Weather Service.

In brief, there is a great deal of uncertainty with the current forecast. The Weather Service stated that their models are having a hard time forecasting the multitude of weather systems that are driving the weather. They stated that over the next several days we can anticipate anywhere between 4 to 8 inches of rain. They are hoping to develop a stronger forecast later today.

It is essential that we begin to prepare for the uncertainties of the forecast. Please take time to review your emergency preparedness plans and emergency supplies. We will be sharing additional information with you as it becomes available.
