School Teacher Sentenced to 3Years in Prison for Child Molestation, Highland High School, Palmdale #LASD

Los Angeles County District Attorney's News Release:

A 29-year-old man was sentenced today to three years in state prison after he was convicted of sexually abusing a high school student.

Aaron Joseph Alvidrez pleaded no contest today to two felony counts of sodomy of person under 18 and meeting minor for lewd purposes.

In addition to the prison sentence, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Eric Harmon also ordered the defendant to register as a lifetime sex offender and to stay away from the victim for 10 years.

At the time of the crime Alvidrez was a substitute teacher at Highland High School in Palmdale.

Between Sept. 22 and Oct. 3, 2014, the defendant sexually abused the 17-year-old male victim in a classroom and inside Alvidrez’s vehicle.

On Oct. 21, 2014, the defendant was charged in connection with the abuse.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau. Aaron Alvidrez, was arrested by detectives during the afternoon on Tuesday, October 21, at a residence in Lancaster.

NARRATIVE:

On Monday, October 20, 2014, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau began investigating an allegation of child molestation between a teacher and a student at Highland High School.  The student had disclosed to school officials that a teacher at the school had sexually assaulted him on several occasions during the month of September.  The assaults took place inside a classroom at Highland High School and inside the teacher’s vehicle.  Upon learning of the student’s allegations, school officials immediately contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. 

 

The investigation was presented to the District Attorney’s office on Tuesday, October 21st, 2014.  Seven felony counts were filed against the suspect, including multiple counts of Committing Sodomy on a Minor, Oral Copulation on a Minor, and Meeting a Minor for the Purpose of Committing a Lewd Act.  The suspect, Aaron Alvidrez, was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau Detectives during the afternoon on Tuesday, October 21, at a residence in Lancaster.  He is currently in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and being held in lieu of $325,000 dollars bail. 

 

The suspect was employed as a long-term substitute teacher at Highland High School.  The victim in this case was enrolled in a special needs program at the school.
