Nature of Incident: Theft from Vehicle Suspect arrested in Thousand Oaks

Narrative:
On September 23rd 2015, The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect involved in several vehicle thefts occurring in the City of Thousand Oaks.
On September 23rd 2015, at about 1:40 AM, a Thousand Oaks citizen observed an unknown subject rummaging through a vehicle. This alert citizen immediately called the Thousand Oaks Police Department. Thousand Oaks Police officers quickly arrived on scene and located the suspect. The suspect fled the area, but was quickly caught and detained.
During the initial in-field investigation, property was located on the suspect, identified as Kenneth Koffi, which was identified as being stolen from several other unlocked vehicles in the area. Koffi was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ventura Jail for a variety of charges including theft from vehicles, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
Detectives with the Thousand Oaks Police Investigations Bureau conducted a follow-up investigation and were able to secure a search warrant for Koffi’s residence. During the search of Koffi’s residence, detectives located additional property believed to be stolen, and evidence that Koffi was involved in the sales of illegal drugs.
The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to remind residents of the importance of locking car doors and not storing valuables inside vehicles. Most thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity and can be prevented by taking a few easy precautions. Additionally, please report any suspicious persons or activities to the police. The willingness of the witness to notify police was instrumental in the successful apprehension of this suspect.
