SCAM I.R.S. CALLS CAUSE CONCERN:
Today (09-24-15) the police department has received a number of calls from concerned citizens regarding scam Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.) calls recently. Citizens should be aware of the fact that the I.R.S. does not call citizens personally to ask for confidential information, or to demand money. The I.R.S. does not call citizens and threaten to arrest them. Ripon citizens are being cautioned to never give out personal or banking information over the phone.
Please pass along this information to your family, friends and coworkers. These calls are a scam designed to trick you into sending criminals money. If you have any questions about the validity of these calls, please feel free to contact the Ripon Police Department for assistance.
