Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 09-08-15 at 3:00 p.m., Officer Brandon Scholes and Officer Jose Ortega stopped a vehicle for a registration violation at Gellert Boulevard and Hickey Boulevard. The driver, a 21-year old Pacifica resident, had a suspended driver's license. The passenger, a 27-year old Vallejo resident, also had a suspended driver's license. Officers asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and asked if she had anything illegal on her or in the vehicle. The driver consented to being searched and advised that there were checks in the glove box that didn’t belong to her. Officers asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle and asked if he had anything illegal on his person. The passenger replied, “No”. Officers found four prescriptions for “Alprazolam” for four different names. Officers searched the vehicle and found a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine, a pill bottle containing 90 “Alprazolam” pills prescribed to someone other than the driver or passenger and documentation (typed out lists) containing personal identifiable information for approximately 30 people, as well as a debit card belonging to someone else. After a thorough interview and investigation, officers arrested the driver for commercial burglary, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of personal identifiable information of ten or more persons with the intent to defraud, conspiracy to commit a crime, forging a prescription, and driving with a suspended driver's license. The passenger was arrested for commercial burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, and identity theft.

On Wednesday, 09-09-15 at 3:57 p.m., officers from the “Crime Suppression Unit” contacted a subject in an illegally parked vehicle on the corner of Irvington Street and Templeton Avenue. The male in the driver’s seat had previous drug-related arrests and was on probation and subject to search and seizure. Officers asked the subject if he had anything illegal in his vehicle, and he replied, “no”. Officer Taylor and his K-9 partner, Odin, arrived to search the vehicle, and Odin found a bag underneath the driver’s seat. As the K-9 pulled out the bag, the contents, multiple plastic baggies, a scale, and a bag containing large shards of a white crystalline substance (later revealed to be methamphetamine) fell out of the bag. Officers also found in the vehicle two spent .38 caliber shell casings, a straw with white residue at one end, and an operational stun gun (in the shape of brass knuckles) in a nylon holster. Officers then went to the subject’s residence and found a bottle of “Hydrocodone” pills not prescribed to the subject. The subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possessing of a controlled substance for sale, transporting a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance, and being a felon in possession of a stun gun.

On Thursday, 09-10-15 at 3:30 p.m., the Crime Suppression Unit received an anonymous tip/photograph that a Daly City resident was bragging on social media about his cache of guns and knives in his home. Concerned about the amount of weapons and the subject’s prior contacts, the officers went to the subject’s apartment on the 400 block of 87th Street to investigate. The subject, a 20-year old Daly City resident, allowed the officers to examine the rifle case, and officers noted the weapons were all air-soft of pellet guns but had a very realistic appearance. The subject then advised the officers that he also had an “AR-15” he had built. Officers arrested the subject for illegal possession of an assault rifle and for illegally manufacturing an assault rifle.

On Friday, 09-11-15 at 12:00 p.m., a residence on the 200 block of Oakridge Drive was burglarized. The suspect entered the residence via a 2nd floor window and stole miscellaneous jewelry. Detectives conducted a neighborhood check, and a neighbor said he saw a subject using a ladder and climbing through the 2nd floor window. The neighbor asked the subject what he was doing, and he said he was helping the resident get inside the house. The neighbor wrote down the license plate and description of the subject’s vehicle. Detectives later contacted and arrested the subject, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, for burglary. He was also responsible for another burglary on the unit block of North Mayfair Avenue in Daly City.


Robberies

There were no robberies during the past week.


Residential Burglaries

There were three residential burglaries during the past week.

On Friday, 09-11-15 at 12:00 p.m., a residence on the 200 block of Oakridge Drive was burglarized. The suspect entered the residence via a 2nd floor window and stole miscellaneous jewelry. A subject was arrested in this case. (See “Notable Cases”.)

On Friday, 09-11-15 at 1:30 p.m., a resident on the unit block of North Mayfair Avenue came home from the gym and saw a cream colored Isuzu SUV parked in front of his house. The resident entered through the garage, heard a commotion upstairs and quickly went to check it to see what it was. The resident saw a subject opening drawers in his parent’s bedroom and confronted him. The subject then told the resident that he had a gun and said he was going to shoot him. Fearing for his safety, the resident got out of the suspect’s way as the suspect left the residence. The subject got into the vehicle parked in front of his house but the reporting party could not get the license plate. This vehicle was the same vehicle that was described in the case above. The subject was later identified and arrested.
Between 09-07-15 at 10:00 a.m. and 09-11-15 at 2:00 p.m., a residence on the 200 block of Morton Drive was burglarized via a downstairs bedroom window by an unknown suspect who stole an Apple iMac desktop computer and a Nintendo WII unit.


Commercial Burglaries

There was one commercial burglary during the past week.

Between Thursday, 09-10-15 at 11:10 p.m. and Friday, 09-11-15 at 11:30 a.m., the Quickly USA business on the 100 block of Southgate Avenue was burglarized by an unknown subject who pried the security gate and kicked the door. The loss is to be determined, and the investigation is continuing.


Vehicle Burglaries

There were three vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• Smart & Final parking lot—a backpack containing a laptop was taken from the trunk of a 1999 Acura Integra. The rear window was smashed. Occurred on 09-09-15 between 6:50 p.m. and 7:32 p.m.
• 100 block of Los Olivos Avenue—miscellaneous change was taken from a 2008 Cadillac STS. The time of occurrence and method of entry is unknown. **On-line report.
• Serramonte Shopping Center near JC Penney—a backpack containing a laptop and sunglasses was taken from a 2015 Dodge Caravan. The right side sliding door was smashed. Occurred on 09-12-15 between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.


Stolen Vehicles

There were two vehicles stolen during the past week. One was recovered.

• Mission Street/East Moltke Street—a 2002 Chevrolet Express van. Occurred on 09-07-15 at 4:39 a.m. **Recovered by San Francisco P.D. on 09-08-15.
• East Cavour Street/Mission Street—a 2005 Chevrolet Astrovan. Occurred between 09-08-15 at 4:00 p.m. and 09-09-15 at 08:00 a.m.

Pasta Bingo—Daly City Lions Club Fundraiser on 09-18-15

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on 09-19-15

The City of Daly City will host its 13th annual National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Saturday, September 19th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Community Center at 6655 Mission Street. The festivities begin with a welcoming cultural dance by Aztec Dancers. This free celebration includes consulate representatives from several Latin American countries who are scheduled to attend to provide outreach and information to their respective constituents. This celebration also includes cultural entertainment, dancing, and children’s Latin-inspired arts and crafts. A food vendor will serve Latin cuisine for a nominal cost.
