On 9/16/15, at approximately 7:51 PM, the Chula Vista Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Third Avenue (700 Block). Officers arrived on scene and discovered that an adult male had been struck by a single vehicle traveling southbound on Third Avenue. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

The victim was transported to UCSD to be treated for his injuries. The victim is in critical condition and expected to survive.

Witnesses at the scene saw the male pedestrian impede the flow of southbound traffic, step onto the sidewalk and then fall into the #2 southbound lane of Third Avenue. The pedestrian was then struck by a vehicle. At this point there is no indication that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

The Chula Vista Police Traffic Division will be conducting the investigation.
