Business checks in the city & county areas of Barstow uncover a store selling synthetic cannabinoid

INCIDENT: H&S 11357.5 - Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoid Compound, or any Synthetic Cannabinoid Derivative for sale.

SUMMARY:
On 09/10/15 the Barstow Safety Coalition and the Sheriff's Department teamed up to conduct business checks in the city and county area of Barstow. They had a plain dressed employee of the Sheriff's Department enter several stores to make sure they were not selling spice or bath salts. During the business check of the Lenwood Shop the Sheriff employee requested a specific brand of spice. He was told that they did not have the requested brand, but they did have different brand. The clerk then advised the Sheriff employee that it was legal and it was for sale for $25 dollars per can.
The seven cans contained two plastic bags that held the spice. The two different brands of spice that was located in the Lenwood Shop was decorated in bright colors; one with an altered Hello Kitty logo and the other with an altered Madden football logo but the football star is holding guns instead of a football. This store had been warned in the past to remove the items but has failed to do so. The cans were seized per County Code 27.1507 and were placed into evidence. The report will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office.
On July 18, 2014 San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously apporved an ordiance to stop the sale of sythetic drugs. Spice refers to a mix of herbs sprayed with synthetic chemicals that is usually smoked. Bath salts consist of synthetic chemicals in powder or crystal form that are usually snorted or injected.
