Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 09-01-15 at 4:00 a.m., Officer Philip Wagnon conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration at Hanover Street and Whittier Street. The driver, a 33-year old Oakland resident, was subsequently arrested for driving with a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia (a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine) and for displaying false registration tabs on a vehicle. The passenger, a 33-year old Oakland resident, was arrested for being in possession of prescription pills that she was not prescribed.

On Thursday, 09-03-15 between 7:55 a.m. and 8:10 a.m., a 17-year old female said she was walking to Jefferson High School when a Hispanic subject in his mid-20’s driving a maroon 4 door sedan yelled at her from his vehicle, wanting her to get into his vehicle to “kick it”. This occurred at the corner of Bruno Avenue and West Moltke Street. The victim refused and kept on walking to school. She said the suspect then drove south towards School Street. This investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, 09-03-15 at 10:20 p.m., Officer Bonnie Shiu was on patrol in the parking lot of Serramonte Shopping Center near the Buffalo Wild Wings when she heard a commotion between subjects in two parked vehicles. The officer saw a subject sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle brandish a black colored firearm and point it towards subjects standing outside another vehicle. The officer called for assistance, and as other units arrived on scene and ordered the subjects to exit the vehicles, the subject who brandished the gun spontaneously stated, “It’s just a BB gun”. The subject, an 18-year old San Francisco resident, said he had just bought the gun at the sporting goods store and admitted to being “stupid” in his actions. The officer cited him for brandishing a replica firearm.

On Friday, 09-04-15 at 1:18 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Ross Dress for Less store on a report of a burglary in progress. The loss prevention officer was watching, via video surveillance, a male breaking a window to the store and attempting to make entry. This occurred in the area of Mission Street and Theta Avenue.

On Friday, 09-04-15 at 10:08 p.m., Officer Dave Uziel was on patrol and saw a silver Infiniti drive past him on John Daly Boulevard at a high rate of speed (50+ mph). The officer pulled the vehicle over, and the driver said he was rushing to pick up his girlfriend at the BART station and that he wasn’t used to the vehicle he was driving. Officer Uziel noticed that the driver’s speech was very rapid and that the subject was repeating himself. The driver, a 56-year old Daly City resident, was on probation and was subject to search and seizure. Believing the driver was driving under the influence of a stimulant, the officer asked the driver and the passenger (his girlfriend) to step outside the vehicle. The officer conducted some field sobriety tests and determined the subject was under the influence. Inside the vehicle, the officer found a pouch containing a pipe commonly used to smoke a controlled substance. He was then arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and for speeding.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
