On November 11th 2013 Youth Pastor Daniel Diaz was murdered as he was returning from a movie. This murder remained unsolved until recently when Pomona Police homicide detectives were able to identify Arvin Benson as the suspect in the case. Benson, who is from a local gang and lives in Pomona was arrested last Thursday and booked into the Pomona city jail. Yesterday, detectives obtained a criminal filing with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for murder with gang enhancements.
On the night of the murder Daniel Diaz had taken several teenagers from his church to a movie. After the movie he was driving them home when the shooting occurred. Diaz had just dropped off one of the teens at a residence on Mayfair Ave. in Pomona. The vehicle he was in stopped at the intersection of Mayfair Ave. and Park Ave. Diaz was struck by gunfire and was killed.
Homicide detectives tracked down leads and interviewed witnesses until the case went cold. They recently received new information about the case and the investigation progressed to the point where Benson was identified as the shooter. Yesterday, Benson appeared in Department F of the Los Angeles Superior Court in Pomona, but waived his arraignment until September 29th. He is being held on 2 million dollars bail.
