When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 08-24-15 at 12:21 a.m., Officer Nicholas McCarthy was on patrol in the area of Callan Boulevard and King Drive when he saw a vehicle with extremely tinted windows drive by him. The officer said the driver of the vehicle was filming him with his cell phone as he approached the vehicle. The driver spontaneously told the officer he didn’t have his driver's license in his possession but he knew the number. Officer McCarthy noticed the passenger in the front seat was acting nervous, and he couldn’t see the rear passenger. The officer asked all of the occupants if they were on probation or parole, and all of them replied, “No”. The dispatcher advised that the passenger had a warrant for narcotics-related charges and was on county probation, subject to search and seizure. Officer McCarthy asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle, and the passenger was extremely nervous and reluctant to do so. Once all of the occupants were outside the vehicle, Officer McCarthy conducted a search of the vehicle. The officer found a baggie containing crystal methamphetamine directly behind where the passenger was sitting. The officer used a key to open the locked glove box and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the glove box. Next to the gun was a clear glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. The gun was reported stolen from San Francisco. The officer found two large boxes in the trunk containing what appeared to be blank payroll check paper. Upon further inspection, the officer found two printers and numerous checks made out to different individuals. Officers arrested the passenger, a 34-year old South San Francisco resident, for a felon carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm/stolen, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm/weapons convictions, possessing a controlled substance while armed, possessing a controlled substance, counterfeiting, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit a crime, and for a misdemeanor warrant. The reporting party/victim said he was driving northbound on I-280 and took the John Daly Boulevard exit. As he began to drive up the grade, he said a subject in an Audi cut across one lane of traffic and up the shoulder, took over the exit lane and cut him off. The victim said he honked his horn and continued to exit. He said as they got to the intersection of Citrus Avenue and Junipero Serra Boulevard, the subject in the Audi stopped alongside him, looked at him and then pointed to the side of his head and simulated a gun towards the victim. The victim said the subject then began to speed up and maneuver to his right in an effort to run him off the road. The victim said he quickly parked his vehicle into a lot and exited his vehicle to ask the other driver what his problem was. The victim, a 25-year old Daly City resident, said the subject then exited his vehicle and began to punch him with closed fists to his head and face area 7-8 times before he fell to the ground. The subject then got into his vehicle and started to drive away when the victim yelled again to him. The subject came back and punched the victim again. The victim was able to obtain the license plate of his vehicle. Officers arrested the subject, an 18-year old San Francisco resident, for battery and terrorist threats.
On Friday, 08-28-15 at 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the unit block of First Avenue on a report of an argument in which one of the involved parties brandished a rifle. The reporting party said he was working on his car and the horn was sounding while he was working. He said a man across the street yelled at him to keep quiet, and he advised the man he was almost done. He said the person then went back into his house. A couple minutes later, the reporting party said the man reappeared again on his balcony and yelled at him. The reporting party said a short time later, the man walked back to his home and returned with a rifle slung over his shoulder. Officer Lickness noticed the subject was asleep and shook his shoulder to wake him. The subject displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance, and the subject admitted to the officer he smoked “crack” earlier in the day. The 37-year old transient subject was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for being in possession of unlawful paraphernalia (crack pipe).

Scams/Other
Landscape Contractor Scam
This did NOT occur in Daly City, but I wanted you to be aware of it. In mid-August in Fremont, a man claiming to be a licensed and insured contractor contacted a 76-year old resident regarding landscaping services. The victim agreed to let the man do the job, and once work began, the suspect informed the victim that there was additional damage, and he needed more money for materials. The victim confronted the subject about his substandard work quality, and the subject became verbally aggressive. The suspect left without completing the job but managed to get more than $1,000 from the victim who had to later pay to have someone else re-do the work for an additional cost.

Nextdoor.com
This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
