Warrant Sweep in joint operation between Chula Vista Police and DEA results in 11 arrests
The joint operation between Chula Vista Police Department’s Narcotic Enforcement Team and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Violent Traffickers Team began in March of 2015. The ongoing operation identified over 20 suspects who are actively engaged in selling narcotics within the city of Chula Vista. 16 of those suspects were targeted in a 9/1/15 warrant sweep done with the cooperation and coordination of National City Police, Border Patrol, and the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. 8 of the 16 targeted were arrested, along with three other individuals not originally targeted. Of the 3 arrested that were not targeted, 2 had outstanding arrest warrants and one was found in possession of 2 grams of meth.
There are still 5 outstanding suspects being sought by police. (In addition to the 8 arrested this week, 3 were already in custody for other unrelated charges). The remaining 5 outstanding suspects all have active felony arrest warrants.
During Tuesday’s sweep police served 3 residential search warrants, 1 probation search, and made 2 of the arrests during the undercover purchase of narcotics. In addition to the narcotics purchased over the last several months, Tuesday’s operation resulted in the additional seizure of 119 grams of meth.
The operation is an excellent example of the ongoing cooperation between local and federal law enforcement agencies to address the damage that dangerous drugs such as methamphetamines have on our local communities. The cooperation will continue and the public is encouraged to continue to report suspicious behavior.
Chula Vista Police Detectives and the DEA are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect. The suspect is wanted for attempting to sell narcotics to undercover detectives.
