Press Release - Fatal Traffic Collision

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, the Newport Beach Police Department’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a traffic collision on MacArthur Boulevard, just north of the intersection with Von Karman Avenue. The collision involved a pedestrian and a silver Toyota Yaris. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian was crossing MacArthur Boulevard outside of a crosswalk and the vehicle was travelling northbound on MacArthur Boulevard.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as 36-year old Mohamad Ahmed Abdelwahhab, a resident of San Francisco. The female driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. She did not require medical attention.

The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation, but it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Investigator Scott Grecco at 949-644-3747 or [email protected].
