Scam Alert!!!
The Upper Macungie Township Police Department would like to advise it's residents of a scam that is once again being attempted.
Residents have reported receiving a phone call from an unknown person and the caller claims he/she was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a family member of the resident. The caller/scammer then claims to have taken the loved one hostage and demands money for the loved one's return. Sometimes the scammer claims the loved one is badly injured.
The caller/scammer may be very nasty and demanding in nature in an attempt to scam money from the resident.
The Upper Macungie Township Police Department would like to remind it's residents not to send money to a scammer and also that most times the money is requested to be sent via prepaid money card transfers, which are nearly impossible to track. If you should receive one of these calls, please: do not send money, notify your local police agency and certainly call the alleged injured loved one and confirm he/she is not hurt.
The Upper Macungie Township Police Department would like to thank our resident's who have brought this scam to our attention.
