Narrative:
Decedent was walking southbound on Mobil Ave and stopped at the northwest corner of the Ponderosa Drive intersection waiting for the pedestrian signal to turn to a white walking sign. Cantrell was driving westbound on Ponderosa Drive approaching the Mobil Ave intersection. The signal light for Ponderosa traffic turned red and the Mobil Ave signal turned green. Decedent started to enter the roadway to cross the street in the crosswalk and Cantrell drove into the intersection against a red-light and collided into the Decedent. The Decedent was thrown approximately 60 feet. Cantrell continued driving westbound, was unable to negotiate a turn and collided into a parked car. Cantrell exited his vehicle, ran through a residential neighborhood and was tackled by several residents. The residents detained him pending the arrival of police.
Cantrell was arrested for Felony Manslaughter, Felony DUI, and Felony Hit and Run.
The male pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries. The Decedent’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
