Barstow - San Bernardino Movement against Street Hoodlums (SMASH) Operation results in 48 arrests for various crimes

SUMMARY: On Friday, August 21, 2015, a combination of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies and Police Officers from throughout San Bernardino County converged on the city of Barstow for one of several planned SMASH Operations. SMASH, an acronym for “San Bernardino Movement against Street Hoodlums,” is a joint effort between every Sheriff Station and Police Department in San Bernardino County to combat criminal gang activity throughout the County. Since criminal gang activity does not recognize jurisdictional boundaries, Sheriff’s Deputies and Police Officers in San Bernardino County join forces several times each year in an effort to reduce gang related crime.
In Friday night’s operation, 51 law enforcement officials made 48 arrests for charges ranging from Driving under the Influence, Narcotics related offenses, Conspiracy, and Attempted Murder, as well as Misdemeanor/Felony Warrants and Parole/Probation violations.
