Does your teen believe that marijuana is a “safe drug?” Some teens have the
misconception that marijuana cannot be harmful because it is “natural.” Learn
the facts about marijuana and its effect on the teenage brain.
Parents, teens, and any interested Santa Clarita residents are
encouraged to attend a free symposium entitled, “The Immature Teen
Brain on Pot” that will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 6 p.m.
This symposium is part of an annual City of Santa Clarita Drug
Awareness Program and resource fair. It will be held at the Santa Clarita
Activities Center located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
Captain Roosevelt Johnson, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s
Station,along with other local professionals, will be addressing the harsh
realities of teen marijuana use, including its immediate and long-term effects
on the brain and body. Other local professionals participating in the event
include a drug recovery expert from Action Family Counseling, a family
support resource from A Light of Hope, a physician from Henry Mayo Newhall
Hospital and an education administrator from the William S. Hart Union High
School District.
Attendees will get a thorough understanding about the dangers of drug use,
the signs of drug use, and most importantly what they can do to help
someone whether they are a parent, or a concerned resident in the
community .
