Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 08-10-15 at 1:41 p.m., Officer Perdomo was on patrol in the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot and saw a subject walking in the lot in between vehicles. When the subject saw the officer, he appeared nervous and started looking around him. The officer then saw a subject who was at the back of a vehicle which had an open window. That subject then walked towards the mall. Due to the recent increase in vehicle burglaries, the officer stopped the two subjects in the lot and asked the subject who was at the vehicle if the vehicle was his. The subject said it wasn’t his and that someone else asked him to put a bag in the vehicle. The officer asked the first subject if he had any guns, drugs, or weapons on his person, and he said he did not. The officer searched the subject and found a glass pipe containing a burnt residue. The other subject also was searched, and he found a glass pipe with a burnt residue in his pocket. After further investigation, the first subject, a 28-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine), possession of a stolen vehicle, and an outstanding warrant from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. The second subject, a 28-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, 08-11-15 at 3:23 p.m., Officer Brandon Scholes conducted a vehicle check of a parked vehicle on the 700 block of Higate Drive. The officer saw two subjects inside the vehicle and asked what they were doing. They said they were talking and that one subject lived in the area. As the officer was talking to the subject in the driver’s seat, the officer noticed that the subject clutched his hand and out of view—causing him to believe that the subject was attempting to discard or conceal something. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle and saw near the console, a cylindrical portion of a glass used to smoke methamphetamine. Officer Scholes asked the driver if there was anything else in the car, and the subject admitting to having methamphetamine and hypodermic needles. With the assistance of a K-9, the officer found heroin and methamphetamine in the vehicle. The passenger, a 51-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and for possession of a controlled substance. The driver, a 36-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and for possession of hypodermic needles.

On Tuesday, 08-11-15, at 4:33 p.m., Officer Chris Collins contacted two subjects in a vehicle parked near the intersection of Skyline Drive and Palisades Drive. He smelled an odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle. After searching the vehicle and the subject’s backpack, Officer Collins found a large quantity of plastic bags, marijuana, a scale and currency. The officer arrested the subject, a 42-year old Daly City resident, for possession of marijuana for sale.

On Saturday, 08-15-15 at 11:25 p.m., Officer Jaime Bermudez and Officer Shane Hart were on patrol in the area of Ardendale Drive and Dalerose Court and contacted a driver who was sleeping in a vehicle. The officers determined the vehicle was stolen. The driver had a “shaved key” in his possession. (“Shaved keys” are commonly used to steal vehicles.) Officers saw a glass pipe on the subject’s lap. The subject, a 58-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for vehicle theft with priors, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and for committing a felony while out on bail.

On Sunday, 08-16-15 at 3:53 a.m., Officer Shane Hart conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Brunswick Street and Evergreen Avenue. The driver could not provide the officer with a key to the vehicle, though the vehicle was running. The vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle from Vallejo. The driver, a 27-year old Vallejo resident, was subsequently arrested for vehicle theft with priors, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, giving a false name to a police officer and for three felony warrants. The passenger, a 32-year old Fairfield resident, was arrested for two felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant.

“Walk Like MADD”

The Daly City Police Department is participating in the “Walk Like MADD” event on Sunday, October 4th, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This is the Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s national signature fundraising event. Drunk and drugged driving threatens all of us. According to MADD, more than 10,000 people die and 300,000 people are injured each year in drunk driving crashes. MADD has done a lot to help keep our communities safe, but they need help in obtaining funds to further their mission. You can help to eliminate drunk driving by clicking on the link: www.walklikemadd.org/sanfrancisco. Click on the donate button and search for the Daly City Police Department team. Alternatively, come out and join us on October 4th!

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
