Theft Prevention

Thefts from vehicles account for a significant percentage of crime in Anne Arundel County. With the warmer weather there tends to be an increase in Theft from Autos. In most cases, thieves enter vehicles through unlocked doors, so securing your vehicle is an important way to prevent thefts. Make a habit of locking your car all the time.

Another important thing for citizens to do is to remove valuables from their vehicle. Most of these thieves walk down the road, or through parking lots, and look to see if there is property in a vehicle and if the doors are unlocked. If your vehicle is empty and the doors are locked, thieves may move on to the next vehicle. Thieves look for items such as phones, tablets/laptops, GPS units, purses, wallets, or other items such as prescription medicine, so secure your valuables.

Also, we encourage citizens to call the police if they see suspicious persons walking or driving through your neighborhood. If you see someone walking through your neighborhood in the middle of the night, they might be up to no good, and we need to come out and check them. Don’t wait until the morning to call us because if you do, the suspects will be long gone. Please talk to your neighbors about this topic so they can join us in preventing these crimes. Report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.
