Press Release: Bicycle Hit & Run Traffic Collision

At approximately 9:22 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, the Newport Beach Police Department’s Dispatch Center was notified of a Hit & Run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a young rider on a beach-cruiser type bicycle. At the time of the collision, a group of bicyclists was travelling east-bound on E. Bay Avenue and the involved vehicle was travelling westbound on E. Bay Avenue.

The collision occurred near the intersection of E. Bay Avenue and Anade Avenue. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result. Newport Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene to provide treatment and transport her to a local trauma center.

The involved vehicle, described as a silver or white Mercedes, fled the area without stopping to render aid to the injured party. The bicyclist, identified as a 14-year-old female resident of San Carlos, remains in critical condition.
