SUMMARY:
On Monday, August 10, 2015, at approximately 1:54 p.m., deputies from the Big Bear Station responded to the report of a Burglary and Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the 42000 block of Evergreen in Big Bear Lake. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that the suspect, identified as Dennis Pitner, went to the victim’s home and used a rock, approximately the size of a bowling ball, to break in the unlocked front door of the home. Pitner then used the rock to damage the interior walls. When the victims, who were home in another room, confronted Pitner he threw the rock at one of the victims and began to punch one of the victims with a fist.
The victims defended themselves, fought back, and removed Pitner from their home. Pitner attempted to flee the area and resisted arrest but was taken into custody. Pitner is not known to the victims and appears to have randomly selected the residence.
Pitner’s unusual behavior is under investigation and may be related to intoxication and/or psychiatric issues.
