Grandfather Arrested for Pointing A Firearm At Grandson

New Castle – Yesterday afternoon, around 3 p.m., a New Castle man was arrested by troopers at his home on Terry Drive for a Level 6 Felony warrant for Pointing a Firearm.  The warrant stems from an ongoing investigation by Indiana State Police Sergeant David Poynter into an allegation the man pointed a handgun at his grandson while sitting in a vehicle on Shenandoah School property back in May.

Donald E. Rice, age 76, was arrested on the Level 6 Felony warrant at his home without incident. The preliminary investigation revealed that Rice drove his grandson to school on the morning of May 21st of this year, and as the two sat in Rice’s vehicle in the school parking lot, Rice allegedly pointed the handgun at his grandson as he was showing him the gun.

Rice’s grandson, who was able to take a photograph of the incident as it occurred, provided the image to investigators. That image along with Sergeant Poynter’s investigation led the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office to issue the warrant. Rice was lodged in the Henry County Jail. The photograph of the incident is attached and shows Rice pointing the gun.  Further questions should be directed to the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office.

All Suspects Are Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law
