San Bernardino - Arrest made in sexual misconduct investigation

SUSPECT: Armando Espinoza, age 45

SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, the Sheriff’s Department received information of possible sexual misconduct that had occurred between an on duty Deputy Sheriff and a female out of custody work release inmate.
An immediate criminal and internal investigation was initiated. The deputy was identified as Armando Espinoza and he was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigations.
On Thursday, August 6, 2015, Espinoza was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for PC 289.6(a)(2) Sexual Contact with Consenting Inmate.
“This criminal conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said.
The Peace Officer’s Bill of Rights, a law that protects privacy of those involved in personnel actions, does not allow the department to release details of the department’s internal investigation into this matter.
