Advisory

Deputies arrest a suspect for burglary less than 24 hours of him being released on a prior charge

DATE/TIME: Thursday / August 6, 2015 / 0313 Hrs.

INCIDENT: PC 459 - Burglary

LOCATION: 25700 block of Baseline St., City of Highland

VICTIM: Mariscos Espinoza Restaurant

SUSPECT: Juan Guerrero, age 23, a resident of San Bernardino

SUMMARY:

On Thursday, August 6, 2015, at approximately 3:13 a.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at the above business. Deputy Rob Quiroz had just finished a call nearby and arrived on scene within approximately one minute of the call being dispatched.

As Deputy Quiroz approached the business, he observed a male run from the open back door towards a bicycle staged nearby. Deputy Quiroz caught and detained the suspect without incident. In the suspect’s pockets was approximately $825 in bills and coins, as well as receipts from the burglarized business. The suspect, Juan Guerrero, had been released from the Central Detention Center less than 24 hours before this crime after previously being booked on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and on outstanding warrants.

Investigation at the location showed that the suspect forced his way through the back door of the business by breaking apart a metal security screen, then the metal back door itself. The suspect attempted to break into an adjacent laundromat, successfully breaking open a plywood back door at that business before being stopped by an interior security door.

Guerrero was taken to Central Detention Center to be booked on multiple felony charges including commercial burglary and committing a felony while out of O.R. (Own Recognizance) release. During a pre-booking search at the jail, deputies discovered additional cash and suspected methamphetamine concealed on Guerrero’s body. His bail had not been set as of the time of this press release.
