UPDATE #LASD Homicide Detectives Responding to Deputy Involved Shooting, 12000 Blk Rosehedge Dr, Unincorp Whittier

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 12000 block of Rose Hedge Drive, Unincorporated Whittier, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting, on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at approximately 11:40 p.m.

When homicide detectives arrived, they learned that Pico Rivera Station deputies responded to the location for a “family disturbance” call. Upon their arrival, the suspect was said to be drunk, arguing and damaging property.

The suspect emerged from inside the location and made a comment to deputies that he was going to bash their heads in. He then went back into the location. The suspect returned to the area where the deputies were located and swung a metal stick at a deputy, striking him in the arm. Fearing for his safety, the deputy fired his weapon striking the suspect in the upper torso. Another deputy deployed the taser, also striking the suspect in the upper torso.

The suspect is a male Hispanic 47-years-old, that was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital to be treated for bruising and contusions to his left arm.

The investigation is still ongoing.
