Modesto CA – The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous requests from the media asking us to identify the 5-year-old victim from the Modesto Police Department’s Nob Hill Court homicide investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office - Coroner’s Division has been working with the victim’s family and they have requested confidentiality in the death of their child. We will honor the family’s request in hopes of giving them back a little control over their privacy in this matter.
We recognize the media has a job to do and the California Public Records Act does mandate that certain information from these records be released. However, the names and ages of minor victims of certain crimes (including Penal Code sections 273a and 273d) are not required to be disclosed pursuant to Section 6254(f)(2).
We have also received requests from the media asking when Martin Martinez will be returned to Stanislaus County. This is not our investigation and we do not plan to release that information. The media is welcome to contact the Modesto Police Department for that information.
Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy and we hope the media will respect the privacy of those involved.
