HCSO, HFD and Memorial Hermann come together to urge Houston parents & caregivers to "look before they lock"

WHAT: The Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital – together with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston Fire Department – is committed to both creating and reinforcing awareness about the risk to children when left unattended in vehicles during hot summer days.

Please join us as we discuss the disturbing rate of these cases in Houston, the very real medical dangers of heat stroke, critical safety tips for parents and caregivers, and answer little-known law enforcement-related questions (i.e., Is leaving a child or a pet in a hot car a crime? What should I do if I pass a parked car and see an unattended child locked inside?)

For visuals, there will also be a thermometer on the dashboard of a parked car outside so your cameras can capture just how hot it gets inside a car in Houston… and how quickly.

WHEN: Thursday, July 23, 2015 @ 9 a.m.

WHERE: Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center
6411 Fannin, Houston, Texas 77030
Cullen Lobby, enter from the outside (entrance will be clearly marked, located near the Cullen Valet at the corner of Cambridge and Fannin – please see attached map for more details)

**Members of the media: please park live trucks on Cambridge St, across from the Emergency Department entrance in front of the Zoo. If in a normal vehicle, please park at the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza (just across the street from the hospital at 6400 Fannin). You may walk across the street to meet us at the event. Parking will be validated.

WHO: Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman, Dr. Robert Lapus, Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and UTHealth Emergency Medicine Physician; English and Spanish-speaking UTHealth physicians affiliated with Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital & Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute.
