SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Car vs. tree single vehicle crash

LOCATION: Tamarack Road near Lake Road, Belvidere Township.
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a report of car vs. tree single vehicle crash near the intersection of Tamarack Road and Lake Road in Belvidere Township at approximately 10:57 PM on Tuesday, July, 21, 2015.
The investigation indicated that a 16 year old female from Stanton was driving a 2002 Pontiac and traveling east on Tamarack Road when the driver ran the stop sign at Lake Road and continued east onto the gravel portion of the road. The driver then veered off the right side of the road towards the shoulder, over corrected and lost control. The Pontiac travelled sideways through a field and through the front yard of a nearby home striking a large tree.
It appears the driver was distracted by the use of a cell phone. Speed is also believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The driver was not injured.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle. This incident remains under investigation.
