Hope Mills Police arrest three for Robbery.

On Sunday, June 7, 2015, Hope Mills Police Officers responded to Walmart in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, Officers found that the suspects had already left the scene. During the course of the initial investigation, Officers found that three suspects were caught by Walmart Loss Prevention Officers attempting to return stolen property for a refund and, upon being detained by them, one of the suspects pulled out a knife, threatened the Loss Prevention Officers with it, and then fled the scene with the property. The case was then forwarded to the Detective Division for further investigation.

During the course of their investigation, Detectives identified the three suspects responsible for the crime as Glenn Richard Tedder II, 27, of the 5700 block of Murchison Rd., Tye Shaw Smith, 27, of the 5200 block of Mawood Drive, Fayetteville, and Elaine V Newton, 30, of the 6600 block of NC HWY 20 W, Lumber Bridge. Investigators also found that Glenn Tedder and Tye Smith were out on bond for a previous crime they committed together at Walmart in Hope Mills on August 22, 2014.

Hope Mills Police, with the assistance of the US Marshal’s Service, Fayetteville Police Department, and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office have since arrested and charged all three individuals for the following offenses in relation to the crime that occurred on June 7, 2015:

Glenn Richard Tedder II was jailed under a $55,000.00 bond for the following offenses:

1 count of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
1 counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense
1 count of Felony Conspiracy
*multiple warrants for various offenses committed in other jurisdictions were also served at the time of Tedder’s arrest.

Tye Shaw Smith was jailed under a $150,000.00 bond for the following offenses:

1 count of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
1 count of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense
1 count of Felony Conspiracy
*multiple warrants for various offenses committed in other jurisdictions were also served at the time of Smith’s arrest.

Elaine Virginia Newton was jailed under a $30,000.00 bond for the following offenses:

1 count of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
2 counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense
1 count of Felony Conspiracy
