July 7th

Stolen Vehicle- 2300 block of Mono Avenue
At 0835 hours, an officer responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reported their 1997 Nissan pickup was stolen sometime between July 6 and July 15.

Residential Burglaries- 1600 Block of Julian Drive and 1300 block of Contra Costa Drive
At 1628 hours, Officers responded to a burglar alarm at a residence and found a broken door on the north side of the home. At 1711 hours, dispatch broadcasted a description of a suspicious person looking into yards. The man was described as a black male adult with blonde hair, thin build, wearing a blue shirt and dark pants. An officer located this subject in the 1400 block of Navellier Street. A consent search of the man’s bags revealed laptops and credit cards belonging to the victim of the burglary in the 1600 block of Julian Drive. The officer took the suspect into custody. At 1818 hours, dispatch broadcasted a report of a burglary in the 1300 block of Contra Costa Drive. Stolen property from this burglary was also found on the suspect who was arrested.

Strong Arm Robbery – TRO Lucky, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 2116 hours, Officers responded to an unwanted person threatening customers inside Lucky. The subject left on foot and confronted the victim behind the store. The suspect pushed the victim off her bicycle, threatened to kill her, and then rode off on the victim’s bicycle. A 28 year old female resident of San Francisco was quickly located and still in possession of the bicycle. She was positively identified as the suspect during an in-field show up and transported to MDF.

Public Intoxication – Denny’s, 11344 San Pablo Avenue
At 0054 hours, Officers responded to Denny’s regarding a man inside the restaurant yelling at the staff and refusing to leave. Upon arrival, they located and arrested a 38 year old transient who was transported to MDF.


July 8th

Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Avenue and Cutting Blvd
At 0647 hours, an officer contacted a 23 year old man from Richmond and arrested him for an outstanding warrant.

Shoplifting- Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue
At 1108 hours, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 26 year old man from Richmond for eating food inside of the store and then refusing to pay. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him with a citation.

Warrant Arrest- Pet Food Express 11430 San Pablo Avenue
At 1432 hours, an officer was conducting a security check of the area when he noticed a suspicious person loitering in front of the store. The officer contacted the 53 year old man from Richmond and arrested him for an outstanding warrant. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the county jail in Martinez.

Possession of a Controlled Substance and Paraphernalia- Colusa Avenue and Errol Drive
At 1459 hours, an officer contacted a suspicious man loitering in the neighborhood. The officer arrested the 32 year old man from Albany for possession of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him with a citation.

Armed Robbery – Lagunitas Avenue / Tassajara Avenue
At 2010 hours, Officers responded to a robbery in which the suspect approached the victim, brandished a firearm stole her purse, and fled on foot south on Tamalpais Avenue. The suspect was described as a BMA, mid 20s, thin build, short hair, wearing a grey t-shirt and camouflage pants.

Arrest for Commercial Burglary – LaunderLand, 11785 San Pablo Avenue –
At approximately 0352, El Cerrito police officers responded to an alarm call and saw the front door glass was broken upon arrival. Officer’s located a male sleeping behind the business. The reported seeing a suspicious person wearing a red wind breaker around the business when the alarm sounded. An El Cerrito police officer remembered seeing a subject matching the description walking away from the area in front of McDonalds as he arrived. The male, a 38 year old male from Richmond, was located and detained by an El Cerrito police officer. The male admitted to being near the door but denied breaking the window. The male was identified as the same subject was seen walking away from the business when the alarm sounded. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.


July 9th

Auto Burglary- Parking Lot of Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue
At 0615 hours an officer responded to a report of an auto burglary. An unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle while the victim was inside shopping and stole a bag from the vehicle.

Auto Burglary- 11720 San Pablo Avenue
At 0636 hours an officer responded to a report of an auto burglary that had just occurred. An unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and stole a leather purse containing cash. The suspect fled in a grey colored vehicle.

Auto Burglary- Parking lot of Peet’s Coffee 9895 San Pablo Avenue
At 0734 hours an officer responded to a report of an auto burglary that just occurred. The victim confronted a suspect who had broken a window to their vehicle while they were inside Peets getting a cup of coffee. The suspect dropped the stolen backpack he had retrieved from inside the vehicle and fled in a black colored Mercedes Benz with no license plates.

Attempted Residential Burglary- 2300 block of Alva Avenue
At 1143 hours an officer responded to report of an attempted burglary. The homeowner reports the residence is being renovated and an unknown suspect attempted to pry open the rear door but failed to gain entry.

Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession for Sales of Controlled Substances, Possession of Fictitious Bills and a Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd / San Pablo Avenue
While speaking with the driver and obtaining the names of the occupants in a vehicle during a traffic stop, an El Cerrito police officer noticed a large budge in the suspect’s shirt; a 45 year old male from San Francisco. The male also appeared to be trying to conceal something. The male was removed from the back seat and found to be in possession of a considerable amount of heroin, cocaine base, and various prescription pills. El Cerrito PD K9 Denzel was used for a more thorough search. The male was found to be in possession of approximatley 83.8 grams of black tar heroin, 5.7 grams of methamphetamines, 17.5 grams of base cocaine, brown heroin, 72 Xanax pills, 4 Lorazapan pills, 2 clonidine pills, 2 fentenal patches, and several more prescription pills. The male also had cutting agents, packaging supplies, stolen prescription pads, a fake $100 bill, and $340 in cash. The male was also wanted on a San Francisco PD warrant. The male was booked and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Commercial Burglary – Taste of Ethiopia, 11740 San Pablo Avenue
At approximately 0416 hours, El Cerrito police officers responded to a broken window which was called in by the security guard. It was determined the suspect used a rock to break a front window and steal the cash register which was later located on a path to the rear of the complex leading to Knott Avenue. Total loss was $63.

Commercial Burglary – Strings, 11720 San Pablo Avenue
A second broken window was discovered upon arriving at the above burglary. The suspect broke the window and rifled through the area around the cash register and in the office. A resident living above the business reported hearing and seeing the suspect break into the business at approximately 0130 hours, but elected not to call police.
